Biking the Lake Apopka Connector Trail... Comments and Photos

We visit starting from the West Orange Trail at Clarcona Horse Park.

Clarcona Horse Park to McCormick Rd. (0.25 mile)

Starting at the Clarcona Horse Park parking area near the picnic pavilion, follow the spur to N. McCormick Rd. Cross at the crosswalk. Turn left to continue on the West Orange Trail, or turn right onto the Lake Apopka Connector Trail.

McCormick Rd. to Pastor Page Dr. (2.75 miles)

  • The Connector starts along McCormick Rd. as a narrow sidewalk, then widens. The first mile runs on the south side of the road, passing a wooded area adjacent to residential communities with a few road crossings into these neighborhoods.
  • The trail crosses McCormick and continues on the north side past a water reclamation facility. The trail is removed from the road, but unshaded and becomes hilly.
  • In about 6/10 mile, it turns away from the road and enters a pleasant wooded section. There are several equestrian trail crossings here. This section runs for a mile before exiting onto Pastor Page Drive.

Pastor Page Dr. to Magnolia Park (1.5 mile)

  • Pastor Page Drive runs parallel to SR 429, past an apartment community. The trail runs alongside the road with a narrow median and several drive crossings. In 1/2 mile, the trail crosses Ocoee-Apopka Rd.
  • Along Ocoee-Apopka Rd. the trail runs under SR 429. There are several crossings at highway ramps, be very careful.
  • Another 2/10 mile along Ocoee-Apopka Rd. with one residential community crossing, then the trail turns into a wooded corridor parallel to S. Binion Rd. It emerges onto Binion Rd. in 1/2 mile as it approaches Magnolia Park.
  • The trail ends at the entrance to the Magnolia Park camping area.

Magnolia Park

Magnolia Park is located on both sides of Binion Rd. The park has resident peacocks, but we didn't see them.

Magnolia Park-east

On the east side, at the end of the Lake Apopka Connector Trail, are the day-use area (restrooms, picnicking, butterfly garden, playing fields, basketball) and campgrounds. A half-mile road circles a pond in the middle. Take note of the posted 11.5 speed limit!

Magnolia Park-west

Across Binion Rd. on the west side are restrooms, boat ramp, picnicking, playground, fishing pier, and the Lake Apopka Eco Nature Center. The Lake Apopka Loop Trail starts at the northern end, across from the Nature Center.
