Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake
Latest update: August 2023
Bill Frederick Park covers 183 acres at Turkey Lake near MetroWest in south Orlando. A 2-mile paved bike path circles the Park, with one short break at the far end, with very little traffic. Only a few yards on-road completes the loop. The Park is close to the attractions, restaurants and shopping, a pre-Disney diamond in the rough. Bike rentals (not many, so call ahead) are available at the Park. Turkey Lake is famous for its fishing, which is maintained by limited boat access, active lake management, and enforcement of standards. (Map and photos below.)

In addition to the bike path, this pleasant park has numerous picnic pavilions and bathrooms, playgrounds, swimming pool, limited boat rentals, (good fishing strictly regulated), hiking trails, disc (Frisbee) golf course, and a "mock-up" of an old historic Florida farm... a great place to bring the kids. Camping and RV park are available, plus stalls to rent for boarding horses, and a dedicated "Drone Zone." The only negative is road noise from nearby I-4.
The path meanders about two miles around the park, circling the disc golf courses, past the pool, playground and picnicking along the lakeside.
Turkey Lake has been featured in "Bassmaster" magazine, "Florida Sportsman" and ESPN's "Casting Crew." Thanks to cooperation between the FWC, City of Orlando and Bass Pro Shops, fishermen can rent an aluminum bass boat at the Park for the day. In order to maintain quality, boat fishing is limited to four boats, Thursday-Sunday, 6:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Catch-and-release for largemouth bass, limits on panfish and catfish. This is only way the public can legally fish Turkey Lake from a watercraft. Shoreline fishing is available anytime the park is open, with fishing piers and fish attractors at spots along the shoreline. Possession of cast nets is prohibited.
