Page Summary:
Kudos to the City for this pleasant diversion from tourist-world! The trail provides scenic views along the lake shore, and easy access to park facilities including restrooms, picnic pavilions, playground, splash pad, marina, concession, and fishing and observation piers. Many benches to relax and enjoy the surroundings, while historic markers tell about the area. Wildlife along the shore include alligators, turtles and various birds. The city center is only a few blocks away, with restaurants and shops.
Starting from Big Toho Marina, the trail leads past playgrounds, splash pad, picnic pavilions, and an observation pier. Two spurs run from the trail out into the lake (at the Marina and at the lighthouse). The Ruby Plaza Cafe is a convenient stop for refreshments.
This section passes the fishing pier, American Legion, Berlinsky Community House and Monument of the States, a rain garden, and the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial. At that point, the trail goes roadside along Lakeshore Blvd. to Neptune Road - this is the newest section. Brinson Park (more below) starts at the intersection of Neptune Road.
Trails circle and run through the park, about one mile. Link to parking, picnicking, pavilions/shelters, playground, splash pad and other park facilities.
Brinson Park has parking, a fishing pier, restrooms, and picnic facilities. It's actually on both sides on Neptune Road (north and south) with parking and picnic available at both. The main pathway runs on the south side, to the pier. Continuing past the parking lot it crosses a canal, where the Neptune Road Recreational Pathway (Bill Johnston Memorial Pathway) starts. From here it's mostly roadside, 8 miles to St. Cloud.
From the Marina running south is a section linking to the Shingle Creek Regional Trail. Ultimately, this will be extended to connect to the western sections of the trail at Steffee Landing, etc.
Leaving the Marina, a path runs south along both sides of Lakeview Drive, then they converge at a cycle track. The track runs along Lakeview Drive to Clyde Ave. (about 900 feet), where the Shingle Creek Regional Trail begins. Shingle Creek Regional Trail then continues alongside Clyde St. for about 1/4 mile before turning off through a natural area along Lake Toho, over a boardwalk, and continuing to the temporary trail end (about a mile).
