Biking Lake Fran Loop Trail at Eagle Nest Park... Comments and Photos

The best parts of the trail are at Eagle Nest Park and along the western leg through the wetlands to Lake Fran. The north leg passes a residential area, then returning south it runs along a powerline but the lake is always visible. Many birds along the shoreline.

Completing the Loop

From the powerline, the trail exits onto Metrowest Blvd. at President Barack Obama Pkwy. and links to the Shingle Creek Trail (Orange County section). Complete the loop from here by riding the shared trail along Metrowest Blvd east, back to Eagle Nest Park.

If continuing on the Shingle Creek Trail south along Obama Pkwy., there are 2 crosswalks at the intersection with Metrowest Blvd. - one straight ahead and cross to the right, or one to the right then cross to the left. The second option (right then left) is best, taking you onto the trail on the correct side of Obama Pkwy.

Eagle Nest Park

Eagle Nest Park, 485 acres, is a pleasant neighborhood park that also serves as a trailhead for the Shingle Creek Trail. The park has ample parking, restrooms, picnic pavilions, and playing fields. It features about 1-mile of multi-use walking/biking trails that wind around a lake, good for bird watching. Located next to Eagle Nest Elementary School, which shares athletic facilities.
